Description
The Victron VE.Bus BMS V2 protects Lithium Battery Smart LiFePO4 cells in VE.Bus systems, monitoring individual cell voltage and temperature.
A pre-alarm on approaching under-voltage is what separates this from a BMS that simply disconnects. It warns before anything is shut down, so loads can be reduced deliberately rather than the boat's power disappearing without notice.
If a cell keeps falling, the BMS disables inverting through VE.Bus and uses the Load Disconnect terminal to control other DC loads. Acting through two separate paths matters because the inverter and the DC loads are different systems, and stopping only one leaves the other still draining the bank.
Over-voltage on any cell is handled separately, stopping charging rather than discharge. It monitors individual cells rather than pack voltage, which is where a drifting cell hides on a bank that reads correctly at the terminals. Explore more battery management systems.
- Pre-alarm warns before anything shuts down
- Loads get reduced deliberately, not lost suddenly
- It stops inverting and DC loads separately
- Stopping one leaves the other draining the bank
