Description

The Victron VE.Bus BMS protects individual cells in Victron LiFePO4 batteries used with VE.Bus inverter chargers, across 12 to 48VDC.

Each battery contains its own integrated balancing, temperature and voltage monitoring, and the BMS coordinates them. That layered arrangement is how a multi-battery lithium bank stays balanced: the cells manage themselves and the BMS acts on the system when any one of them reports trouble.

On approaching under-voltage it shuts down or disconnects loads before the battery is damaged by excessive discharge. Deep discharge on LiFePO4 causes permanent capacity loss rather than a recoverable condition, so acting early is the whole purpose.

On approaching over-voltage or unsafe temperature it reduces or stops charging instead. Charging a cold lithium cell is as damaging as overcharging a warm one, and the BMS handles both cases separately from the discharge side. Explore more battery management systems.
