Victron Orion-Tr Smart 48/48-8A DC-DC Charger

The Victron Orion-Tr Smart 48/48-8A is an isolated DC-DC charger for 48V dual-battery systems, delivering 8A.

Both sides at 48V raises the obvious question of why a converter is needed at all, and the answer is control. A service bank wired directly to a source system simply follows whatever voltage that system happens to be at. This applies a proper charging profile instead, compensating for voltage loss along the run rather than leaving the bank permanently a little short.

Isolation keeps the two 48V systems electrically separate, which matters where a propulsion bank and a service bank must not share a fault path. The adaptive three-stage algorithm runs bulk, absorption and float, configurable for lead-acid or lithium, and can be set to fixed output as a stabilized DC power supply.

Engine-running detection stops the source battery being drained after the engine or charging source shuts down.
