Description
The Victron Orion-Tr Smart is a non-isolated 24V to 24V DC-DC charger rated 17A and 400W, with built-in Bluetooth.
Non-isolated is the specification to understand before ordering. Input and output share a common negative, which is fine on most boats but wrong where the two systems must be galvanically separated. Steel hulls, aluminum hulls and installations with separate grounding arrangements need the isolated version instead.
The adaptive three-stage algorithm runs bulk, absorption and float, adjusting absorption time to how deeply a lead-acid battery was discharged. Lithium uses a fixed absorption period, and the unit can be set to fixed DC output where it is serving as a power supply rather than a charger.
Engine-running detection suits smart alternator systems and stops the starter battery being drawn down after shutdown. A remote on/off input allows external switching, units can be paralleled for more capacity, and output reduces at high ambient temperature rather than shutting down. IP43 with terminals facing down, IP22 at the connection area. Explore more DC-DC battery chargers.
