Description
The Victron Orion-TR 12/24-15A is an isolated 360W converter stepping 12V up to a regulated 24V output, with a remote on/off terminal.
The remote on/off terminal takes a low-current switch or an engine run/stop signal rather than the full input current. That means the control switch can be a small panel switch or an existing ignition feed, instead of routing 30-plus amps through a helm switch and back.
Wiring the converter to an engine signal is the useful case, since it then runs only when the engine does. A step-up converter left on with the engine stopped is a steady drain on the 12V bank for no benefit.
Output voltage is adjustable, and the isolated construction separates input and output grounds. Three hundred and sixty watts at 15A of 24V output suits a thruster circuit, a windlass or 24V equipment on a 12V boat. Explore more DC-DC converters and power supplies.
- Remote on/off takes a low-current switch
- No need to route 30-plus amps through a helm switch
- Tie it to an engine signal so it runs with the engine
- Left on, a step-up converter drains the bank
