Description

The Victron Orion-TR 12/12-30A Isolated DC-DC Converter gives a regulated adjustable 12V output from a 10-17V input, at 30A continuous.

Twelve volts in and 12 volts out sounds pointless until the isolation is the reason for it. The converter separates the source side from the load side electrically, which breaks a ground loop or keeps a sensitive circuit off the boat's main negative entirely.

It also regulates, so a load sees a steady 12.2V nominal regardless of what the supply is doing. A boat's DC voltage swings from under 12 to over 14 depending on charging and load, and some equipment behaves badly across that range.

Output is adjustable from 10 to 15V, with 30A continuous at 40°C and around 430W at 25°C falling to 360W at 40°C. Input range is 10 to 17V, which covers the normal swing of a 12V system including alternator charging. Explore more DC-DC converters and power supplies.

  • 12V in, 12V out: isolation is the reason
  • It breaks a ground loop or separates a sensitive circuit
  • Also regulates against a swinging supply
  • Boat voltage runs from under 12 to over 14
