Description

The Victron Centaur is a 12V 50A three-stage three-bank charger with auto-ranging 90-265V AC input.

Fifty amps is the largest Centaur, for a boat with substantial house loads where the 30A and 40A models would still be charging in the morning. Three-stage charging rather than the six or seven stages of the Smart models means no recondition, storage or refresh phases. For a boat used regularly that is rarely a limitation.

Where it does matter is long-term storage. A charger without a storage mode holds float voltage indefinitely, so a boat left connected all winter is better served by a Phoenix Smart or Blue Smart. For a boat in use through the season, the Centaur's simplicity and construction are the stronger argument.

Auto-ranging input across 90 to 265V AC holds full rated output on shore supplies anywhere, including the sagging voltage found at older marinas. Three outputs charge separate banks from one unit, and the analog control means no app, no configuration and no firmware to maintain. Explore more 3-bank battery chargers.

  • 50A, the largest Centaur
  • Three-stage, without recondition, storage or refresh
  • A Smart model suits a boat left connected all winter
  • Full output across 90-265V AC input
