Quick Anchor Rode with 8mm Chain and 9/16" Rope

The Quick Anchor Rode is 25 feet of 8mm chain spliced to 300 feet of 9/16 inch 3-strand polyester rope, using the Slim Splice system.

Three hundred feet of rope is a serious length, giving proper scope in deep water where a shorter rode runs out before the anchor can be set at the right angle. Scope is what makes an anchor hold. Seven times the depth is the working figure, so 300 feet covers anchoring in around 40 feet with allowance for tide.

The splice where rope meets chain is the weak point on any rode and the place a gypsy jams. Quick cut theirs slimmer and more tapered so it feeds through without catching. A rode that jams halfway through deployment is a problem at the bow in the dark, which is exactly when it happens.
