Description

The Newmar ERC-12-15 Emergency Relay/Charger switches critical 12V equipment to a standby battery on supply failure, with maintenance charging.

It responds to AC input failure as well as DC supply failure, which covers both ways power to the equipment can stop. A power supply that loses its AC feed produces nothing, and the equipment behind it cannot tell that from the supply itself failing. Either way the relay acts.

A small maintenance current keeps the standby battery charged during normal operation. An unmaintained backup battery is the classic failure: it sits for years and is flat at the moment it is finally called on.

When normal supply returns, the equipment reconnects and the standby battery is removed from the load. That prevents the backup being drained by the very equipment it exists to protect, which is what happens with an unmanaged parallel arrangement. Explore more Relays, Combiners & Disconnects.

  • Responds to AC input loss as well as DC supply loss
  • The equipment cannot tell the two apart
  • Maintenance current keeps the standby charged
  • An unmaintained backup is flat when finally needed
