Jabsco 12-Blade Neoprene Brass Insert Impeller Kit

The Jabsco 17936-0001-P Impeller Kit is a 12-blade neoprene impeller, 3-3/4 inches across and about 3-9/16 inches wide, with a splined brass hub for a 1-inch shaft. It is one of the widest impellers in the Jabsco range. Width adds volume, so this kit is meant for high-output pumps such as large diesel cooling and generator pumps. The brass insert is molded into the rubber, so the hub and blades come as one piece and nothing needs to be pressed together.

Twelve blades and a wide body move a lot of water with steady pressure, which helps keep big engines cool at full load. Neoprene is the standard compound for raw-water cooling and handles silt and sand well. A spline hub holds up well to the torque needed to turn an impeller this size. Because so much rubber is moving, heat builds quickly if the water supply is interrupted, so a clogged intake can ruin it in under a minute.

Measure the old impeller's width carefully, since Jabsco also makes a 2-9/16-inch-wide version of this impeller. A large impeller is hard to pull by hand, so use a puller rated for 2-9/16 to 4-5/8-inch impellers. Grease the blades and housing, fit the new gasket, and confirm water flow at the exhaust before leaving the dock. Have a helper watch the exhaust outlet while you start the engine, since a big diesel can overheat fast if the impeller does not prime.
