Description
The Egis 250A Surface Mount 87 Series Circuit Breaker gives short-circuit and overload protection with manual switching, interrupting 5,000A at 14V DC.
Five thousand amps at 14V and 3,000A at 28V are the interrupt ratings, and they matter more than the 250A continuous figure. Continuous rating says what the breaker handles; interrupt rating says what it can actually stop. A large battery bank can deliver fault current far beyond a breaker's continuous rating, and clearing it is the whole job.
Surface mounting puts the breaker close to the battery, which is where protection belongs. Cable between the bank and the protection is unprotected by definition, so keeping that section short is part of the design rather than a detail.
It covers 12V, 24V, 36V and 48V systems at up to 48V DC. Combining automatic protection with manual On/Off switching means one device isolates for service and protects against a fault. Explore more marine circuit breakers.
- Interrupt rating matters more than continuous rating
- Continuous is what it handles, interrupt is what it stops
- Surface mount puts it close to the battery
- Cable before the protection is unprotected
