The Egis 250A Panel Mount 87 Series Circuit Breaker is a combined overcurrent protector and manual On/Off switch, rated to 48V DC.

Combining a breaker and a switch means one device does the job of two. The circuit can be isolated manually for service and protected automatically against a fault, without a separate switch and fuse taking up two positions.

Forty-eight volts DC covers 12V, 24V, 36V and 48V systems from one part. DC voltage rating matters on protection because a DC arc does not self-extinguish the way an AC one does, and an underrated breaker may not clear the fault.
