Description

The Dolphin 12/24V 30A DC-DC Battery Converter charges a 24V bank from a 12V alternator, using the BOOSTER platform.

Twenty-four volt trolling motors and bow thrusters are the usual reason for this conversion on a boat with a 12V engine system. Neither can be fed from a 12V alternator directly, and running a separate charging system for them costs more than a converter does.

The BOOSTER platform uses a smart multi-stage charging program rather than simple voltage conversion. That distinction matters: a plain converter raises the voltage and stops there, leaving the auxiliary bank to whatever the output happens to be, while a charging program gives it a proper profile.

Lead-acid, Gel, AGM and lithium are all supported, so the bank chemistry does not have to match the starting battery.
