Description
The C. Sherman Johnson 1/2-20 Jaw/Jaw Open Turnbuckle is a larger traditional rigging adjuster built around an open forged body and stainless jaw ends. It is intended for 5/16 in wire and uses a machine-swage terminal arrangement for a permanent standing-rigging connection. The integral toggle jaw adds articulation at the fitting and removes the need to stack a separate rigging toggle into the assembly. That keeps the connection direct while still allowing the terminal to align with normal rig movement.
The turnbuckle uses a 1/2-20 thread and adjusts from 11-1/2 in closed to 15-1/2 in open when measured pin to pin. The body itself is 6-1/2 in long, while the jaw takes a 1/2 in pin. Forged silicon bronze and 316 stainless components are paired to provide a non-galling threaded combination. The listed breaking strength is 10,500 lb, which should be considered along with the surrounding wire and terminal ratings when the rig is specified.
- Machine-swage configuration for 5/16 in standing-rigging wire
- Integral toggle jaw supports alignment under changing rig angles
- 11-1/2 in closed and 15-1/2 in open pin-to-pin length
- 6-1/2 in body with 1/2 in jaw pin
Choose this fitting only where the thread, pin, wire, and adjustment dimensions agree with the rest of the standing-rigging assembly. The exposed body makes threaded engagement and condition easy to see during tuning and inspection. Browse more Sailing Hardware for compatible hardware and related marine rigging components.
