The C. Sherman Johnson Large Chain Snubber pairs a larger Captain Hook claw with a long three-strand nylon line for heavier anchor-chain systems. When the vessel is anchored, the hook can engage the chain and the rope can be led to a cleat or Samson post so the windlass is relieved of sustained rode tension. The assembly can also be used at the bow roller to keep the chain and anchor secure during passage. Another option is to hook the chain at the roller and pull the line aft until the windlass is unloaded before tying the snubber off.

The supplied nylon line is 15 ft long and 5/8 in diameter, providing stretch that helps absorb shock as the boat moves on the rode. A professional eye splice is included where the line connects to the hook, avoiding a bulky knot at the chain end. The larger hook is intended for bigger chain sizes than the small version while keeping the same simple clip-on operating concept.
