C. Sherman Johnson Small Captain Hook Snubber Hook

The C. Sherman Johnson Small Captain Hook Snubber Hook is the hook-only version of Johnson’s anchor-chain snubber system. It is intended for owners who already have suitable nylon line or want to build a custom-length snubber rather than use a preassembled rope package. The hook can be used to transfer load from the anchor chain to a properly rigged snubber line while the boat is anchored. It can also help secure the chain at the bow roller while underway or during windlass unloading procedures.

The hook is formed from 5/16 in stock and is shaped to engage compatible anchor chain without requiring a permanent chain attachment. Because no rope is included, the user is responsible for selecting line diameter, length, and splice construction appropriate to the vessel and anchoring system. Johnson notes that versions supplied with rope use a professional eye splice, providing a useful reference for how a custom line should be terminated. The bitter end of the anchor chain must remain secured in the windlass whenever the hook is used.
