Description
The Blue Sea Systems 8102 has a 30A double-pole ELCI main, two branch positions and a voltmeter, measuring 7.50 by 5.25 by 3.50 inches.
Small boats need the same protection at the inlet as large ones, and this fits where a full-size AC panel has no chance at 2.25 pounds and under eight inches wide. That size is the point. The alternative on a small boat is often no ELCI at all, because nothing available would fit the space.
The ELCI main is a residual current breaker with a 30 mA leakage trip, giving whole-boat overcurrent and leakage protection to ABYC E-11. An ordinary breaker only reacts to overload. This one also catches current that has found a path it should not be on, which is the fault that matters around water and bonded metal.
A voltmeter reads incoming shore voltage before anything downstream is energized, which is worth having at an unfamiliar dock. A red reverse polarity LED warns when dock wiring is wrong, all label positions are backlit and ON indicating LEDs are fitted, keeping the panel readable in a dim engine space. Explore more marine electrical panels.
- Fits a small boat where a full AC panel will not
- The alternative is often no ELCI at all
- 30 mA leakage trip catches a stray ground path
- Voltmeter reads shore voltage before energizing
