Description

The Wichard Small Anchor Swivel is 316L stainless for 1/4 and 5/16 inch chain, sized at 6mm and 8mm.

Quarter inch and 5/16 chain is light ground tackle, which puts this on runabouts, day sailers and small cruisers rather than anything larger. Fitting a swivel sized above the chain adds weight and cost at the bow without adding capability, so matching it to the actual chain matters.

The swivel lets the anchor turn into the bow roller on its own, so it seats correctly however it surfaced rather than needing to be turned by hand. On a small boat the pulpit is closer to the water and the freeboard lower, which makes reaching a stuck anchor more awkward rather than less.

It does the most work in chop or a hurried retrieval, when the bow is moving and the anchor is swinging. 316L is the low-carbon stainless grade, chosen to resist corrosion at a welded joint that lives underwater. Explore more anchor windlasses.

  • For 1/4 and 5/16 inch chain, 6mm and 8mm
  • Suits runabouts, day sailers and small cruisers
  • An oversized swivel adds bow weight without benefit
  • 316L for a permanently submerged welded joint
