That street end goes directly into the next fitting, saving a nipple and a joint where two fittings sit close together. It is a press connection, made with a pressing tool rather than threading or brazing, so there is no open flame and no cutting threads in place. Suits Schedule 5 through Schedule 40 stainless pipe. It seals on an FKM element with a grip ring and separator ring. Compare it with our other marine pipe fittings.
