Description
The Victron SmartSolar MPPT RS 450/100-MC4 is a 100A controller for 48V systems, accepting up to 450V PV input through MC4 connectors.
Four hundred and fifty volts is a different class of installation from the rest of the range. It allows long series strings of panels, which is how large arrays are wired on land rather than on boats. That high string voltage is what keeps cable losses down across a big installation, and it charges 48V systems specifically rather than 12 or 24.
Independent tracking inputs handle sections of the array working under different conditions, so one shaded string does not drag down the output of another. On a split array facing different directions, that independence is worth more than raw controller capacity.
The front display shows battery voltage, charging current, individual array voltage and current, totals, system status and error codes. Isolated PV connections, active cooling and covered terminals address the safety demands of a high-voltage installation, and programmable relays with remote voltage and temperature sensing add integration options. Explore more solar charge controllers.
