The Victron SmartSolar MPPT 150/100-MC4 VE.Can is a 100A solar charge controller accepting up to 150V PV, with MC4 connectors.
MC4 is the standard solar panel connector, and choosing this version means the array plugs straight in rather than being stripped and screwed into terminals. That suits an installation using pre-terminated panel leads, which is most modern arrays. The TR version with screw terminals suits cable being made off on site.
Advanced tracking logic improves output when partial shading creates several possible power points on the panel curve, which happens constantly on a boat as rigging shadows move across an array. A controller without that logic can settle on a lower peak and deliver a fraction of what the array could produce.
VE.Can allows multiple controllers to synchronize their charging stages across a large installation rather than each working independently.
