Victron VDI-16A Waterproof Marine Galvanic Isolator

Shore-power grounding can create a path for low-level DC currents between a boat and dock equipment. The Victron VDI-16A galvanic isolator is intended to block those currents while preserving the protective grounding function of the AC system. It is specified for a maximum of 16A and uses a waterproof potted construction.

Internally, opposing diodes resist the small DC voltages associated with galvanic corrosion. When a much larger AC fault voltage occurs, the path can conduct so the upstream protective equipment can operate. This arrangement helps protect underwater metals such as propellers and shafts from unwanted electrolytic currents. The potted enclosure is intended to resist water exposure around the component.

The isolator is fitted in the shore-earth path as part of a properly designed marine AC installation. Its 16A classification and exact wiring arrangement must match the shore supply and applicable standards.
