The Victron Galvanic Isolator VDI-32A (32A Max, Waterproof/Potted) prevents electrolytic corrosion by blocking low voltage DC currents that enter the boat via the shore power earth wire. Internally, this isolator uses two diodes connected in anti-parallel fashion, allowing current in both directions but only above a threshold voltage of about 1.4VDC. Installed directly behind the boat's 120V-230V connection, the forward voltage prevents electrolytic current from flowing, while a higher error voltage in the AC circuit still allows the residual-current device to break the circuit as needed.
