Newmar GI-30-FS 30-Amp Fail Safe Galvanic Isolator

The Newmar GI-30-FS is a 30A fail-safe galvanic isolator meeting ABYC A-28 and UL1500, for 115V and 230V systems.

Thirty amps matches the shore service most recreational boats under about 40 feet are wired for, so this is the common size. The isolator rating should equal or exceed the inlet rating. An undersized isolator sits in the ground path of a service larger than it can handle, which is the wrong place to have a bottleneck.

Galvanic corrosion happens because shore power ties a boat's ground to every other boat on the dock, and small voltage differences drive current through the underwater metals. That current eats propellers, shafts and outdrives slowly on any boat left plugged in, and it is invisible until haul-out.

An internal capacitor gives an additional low-impedance path for AC fault current while the fail-safe design keeps ground continuity if the isolator fails internally.
