Description

The Newmar GI-60-FS is a 60A fail-safe galvanic isolator meeting ABYC A-28 and UL1500, with an internal capacitor.

Fail-safe is the word that matters, and it is what separates an ABYC A-28 isolator from a basic one. A conventional isolator that fails internally can leave the safety ground open, which removes the protection that stops a fault energizing the boat. The fail-safe design keeps ground continuity intact even after the isolator itself has failed.

A large internal capacitor gives a secondary low-impedance path for AC fault current, so the ground works properly under fault conditions while still blocking DC galvanic current. That is the balance an isolator has to strike: stop the slow corrosion current without compromising the fast fault current path.

Sixty amps is the rating to match against the boat's shore service, and it should equal or exceed the inlet rating. It suits 115V or 230V systems, withstands high short-circuit current, and holds UL1500 ignition-protection certification for gasoline boats. Explore more battery charging accessories.

  • Fail-safe keeps the ground intact if the isolator fails
  • A basic isolator can leave the safety ground open
  • Capacitor gives fault current a low-impedance path
  • 60A, matched to the shore service rating
