Textured inserts set into the aluminum are the practical detail. Bare anodized metal turns slick when wet, and panels of textured material at the contact points give grip without adding the weight of a full synthetic scale. Dual thumb studs mean the blade opens one-handed from either side, so the knife works the same whichever hand reaches for it.
