The Sea-Dog Chain Stopper is stainless steel for 5/16 to 3/8 inch chain, mounting alone or inside a windlass.
A chain stopper takes the anchor load off the windlass once the anchor is set. A windlass gearbox is built to lift chain, not to hold a boat against wind and swell all night, and leaving it loaded is how they fail. It also prevents the anchor free-falling under way, which happens when a gypsy slips and is how a bow gets damaged at speed.
It fits 5/16 and 3/8 inch chain, which covers most boats up to around 40 feet. Mounting alone on the deck or inside the windlass housing gives flexibility on where it goes, and stainless resists the corrosion of a permanently exposed bow fitting. Explore more anchor accessories.
