Onyx Adult Universal Blue/Purple Paddle PFD

The Onyx Universal Paddle PFD is an adult life jacket in blue and purple, cut specifically for kayaking, canoeing and paddleboarding. Onyx uses flex-cut foam that keeps the front low profile, lightweight and compact. That leaves more room for a full paddle stroke than a bulky boating vest. It's U.S. Coast Guard and Transport Canada approved.

The foam rides high on the back, so it sits above the backrest of a high-back kayak seat instead of pushing you forward. Below that, a breathable mesh lower back lets heat escape where the vest meets the seat. Neoprene pads on the shoulders keep the straps from rubbing during long paddles. Those details matter most on all-day trips, when an uncomfortable vest is one you're tempted to take off.

Six adjustment straps cinch the vest snug, which keeps a PFD from riding up around your ears if you end up in the water. A large front pocket holds keys, a phone in a dry pouch or a snack within easy reach. Onyx builds its vests around how people actually spend time on the water, from paddling to fishing.
