Description

The Morakniv Wood Carving Basic has a 3-inch stainless blade at 7.38 inches overall, a black polypropylene handle and a black polypropylene belt sheath. Made in Sweden.

A carving knife is ground differently from a general blade. The bevel runs at a shallow angle so the edge slices along wood grain rather than wedging into it, which is what lets a carver take controlled shavings instead of splitting the piece. The short blade puts the hand close behind the edge, where the control is, and the long handle gives leverage to push a cut through.

Stainless is unusual on a carving knife, where carbon dominates. It gives up some of the keenness carbon takes in exchange for needing no drying and no oiling. Morakniv has worked in Mora, Sweden since 1891, and the Basic line is built plain on purpose. Explore more Wood Carving Tools.
