Description

The Morakniv Basic 511 has a 3.5-inch carbon steel clip point blade at 8 inches overall, a black and green synthetic handle and a black molded plastic belt sheath. Made in Sweden.

Carbon steel is what separates the 511 from the stainless 546 alongside it. Carbon takes a keener edge and comes back on a stone faster, at the cost of darkening with use and needing to be dried. For a knife touched up daily rather than occasionally, that trade favors carbon, and Morakniv still sells both for that reason.

The Basic line is Morakniv's plainest pattern, sold to Swedish tradespeople on the argument that a knife needs a good blade, a comfortable handle and nothing else.
