The Ka-Bar Mark 1 has a 5-inch black coated 1095 Cro-Van carbon steel clip point blade at 9.38 inches overall, a stacked leather handle, a stainless guard and pommel, and a brown leather belt sheath.

The Mark 1 is the shorter companion to Ka-Bar's 7-inch fighting knife, issued to Navy personnel who needed a fixed blade that would not foul in tight spaces below deck. Two inches less blade changes what it is for. This one handles rope, gear and general work more easily than the full-size knife, and gives up reach it rarely needed.

1095 Cro-Van is Ka-Bar's carbon steel with chromium and vanadium added, tougher than plain 1095 and holding an edge better.
