The Jabsco 1-Inch 12V Electro-Magnetic Clutch Pump is a bronze pump driven by a belt from the engine. A 12V electromagnetic clutch engages it only when you need water, so the pump is not turning every minute the engine runs. It moves a nominal 23 GPM at 1,750 RPM through 1-inch NPT ports, and its nitrile flexible impeller self-primes from dry up to 7.8 feet. The shaft is stainless steel with a carbon-ceramic face seal and shielded ball bearings.
Clutch pumps are common on commercial fishing boats and workboats because they move a lot of water without a large electric motor or the battery draw that comes with one. Typical jobs include engine cooling, bilge pumping, deck washdown, bait tank circulation, and dockside utility pumping. The pump runs in either direction, will not airlock, and passes soft and hard solids without clogging. Because the impeller only turns when the clutch is engaged, it lasts longer than one that spins whenever the engine runs.
