This Icom fixed mount VHF folds Class D DSC together with built-in AIS receive, running a chassis roughly half the depth of Icom's M506, which opens up installs behind the helm where a full-depth radio simply wouldn't fit.

A spacious color display and straightforward controls make this radio equally approachable for someone casually monitoring channel 16 or for a boater running it hard every day. Remote control comes through Icom's companion app, connecting up to three phones or tablets over WLAN so they can stand in for a physical hand microphone. Live AIS traffic renders right on the display, letting an operator ring a specific nearby vessel directly by DSC instead of hailing blind across the airwaves, and a smart device can even patch through as an intercom to the radio itself.
