Icom IC-M510BB Black Box VHF Radio with AIS

The Icom IC-M510BB Black Box VHF Radio with AIS puts the radio in a black box RF unit you can mount out of sight, up to 60 ft from the CommandMic using two OPC-1541 cables. The included black CommandMic runs every function, including DSC. That frees up helm space for displays and gauges.

You can add up to two more CommandMics for the cockpit, flybridge or tower, with one-to-all or one-to-one intercom. An integrated AIS receiver shows targets on the CommandMic or sends them over NMEA 2000 to your multifunction display. NMEA 2000 and NMEA 0183-HS share AIS, GNSS position, DSC calls and channel data with other equipment.

Each CommandMic has a DSC button on the back that sends your MMSI and GPS position in a Class D distress alert, and a dedicated DSC remote control terminal connects to an external device. A built-in 15 watt amplifier drives an external hailer, with one-way listen-back and foghorn patterns. Active noise canceling clears transmit and receive audio, and an anchor watch function warns you if the boat drags.

The RF unit measures 8.5 x 3.1 x 4.4 in and weighs about 2 lb, and the CommandMic measures 2.7 x 5.7 x 1.5 in and weighs 14.1 oz. It is IPX7 waterproof, runs on 13.8 V DC and transmits at 25 or 1 watt, with an internal GNSS receiver and a connection for an external GPS antenna. Receiver sensitivity is 0.22 microvolts typical, and the CommandMic speaker puts out more than 2 W while the RX hailer output tops 15 W.
