Description
The First Watch AC-1100 is a USCG Type III flotation coat in hi-vis yellow, size Large, with Supersoft flotation panels and a waterproof internal barrier.
A flotation coat solves a problem a separate vest cannot. Deck crew in cold weather need both warmth and flotation, and wearing a PFD over foul weather gear is bulky enough that people stop doing it. Building the flotation into the coat means it is worn for the whole watch rather than put on when someone remembers.
Supersoft panels flex rather than holding a rigid shape, which is what allows a coat with flotation built in to still be worked in. A 3D articulated sleeve lets the arms move naturally, and reinforced elbows and cuffs take the abrasion that deck and rescue work causes.
SOLAS reflective tape on the shoulders, wrists and cuffs is placed where a searchlight will find it, since those are the parts above water on someone in the sea. A thermo-lined hood stows away when not needed, and handwarmer pockets with a fleece-lined collar handle the cold that ends a watch early. Explore more immersion suits and flotation apparel.
- Flotation built into the coat, not worn over it
- A PFD over foul weather gear gets left off
- Supersoft panels flex enough to work in
- SOLAS tape where a searchlight will find it
