Description

The Douk-Douk Squirrel is a traditional French friction folder, a carbon steel blade in a folded steel handle carrying squirrel artwork. Made in France.

Douk-Douks have been made in Thiers since 1929, and the design has barely changed: a single piece of sheet steel folded around the blade, with no bolsters, no liners and no lock. That construction is why the knife is so flat, slipping into a pocket like a coin. Carbon steel takes a very keen edge and resharpens easily, but it will darken and eventually rust if left wet, so it should be wiped down after use. Many owners let the patina develop deliberately.

The pressed artwork on the handle is the traditional decoration, and this version has a squirrel. Explore more Traditional Knives.

  • Carbon steel blade takes a keen edge and resharpens easily
  • Folded sheet steel handle, exceptionally flat in a pocket
  • Friction folder with no lock, the original 1929 design
  • Made in Thiers, France
