The Condor Francisca Throwing Axe is 18.5 inches overall with a 6.38 inch 1060HC head, a 3.25 inch cutting edge, a hickory handle and a leather sheath.
The francisca is a Frankish throwing axe from the early medieval period, and its curved head is the distinctive part. The shape means it presents an edge across a range of rotations rather than only at one point. Condor builds it as a functional reproduction rather than a wall piece, in forged carbon steel on a hickory haft.
1060HC is a medium-carbon steel, tough enough to absorb repeated impact without chipping and soft enough to be filed back in the field. Hickory is the traditional axe handle wood because it flexes under shock rather than transmitting it, and the Condor classic finish leaves an uneven oxide that slows rust.
