Blue Sea 7148 150A 187-Series Surface Mount Breaker

The Blue Sea Systems 7148 is a 150 amp surface mount breaker in the 187 Series, rated to 48 volts DC.

At 150 amps the cable is heavy enough that the mounting method starts to matter for a practical reason. Surface mounting leaves the terminals accessible from the front with the cable approaching along the bulkhead, rather than forcing a heavy run to bend into a panel cutout behind a console.

One caution applies at this rating: do not use the breaker as a routine switch where high inrush currents are expected. Repeated inverter or motor inrush through the contacts wears them far faster than the same current passing through an already closed breaker. Fit a proper switch for that duty.

The thermal bi-metal element gives Type III protection with manual reset and trip free operation, so it cannot be held closed against a fault. Interrupt capacity is 5,000 amperes at 12 volts DC, 3,000 at 24 and 1,500 at 42. Waterproof, ignition protected to SAE J1171, with 5/16 studs and a lever showing trip status by orientation.
