When you release the kicker, the rods straighten and lift the boom, and in a blow you can pull it down hard without the strut fighting the sheet.

The rods flex through up to 400 mm (15.7 in), compared with 300 mm on the 25 to 30 ft size, and full adjustment gives 200 mm (7.9 in) of stroke.
