Description
The Balmar AltMount Serpentine Pulley Conversion Kit converts Yanmar 6LY, 6LYA-STP and 6LY2-STP engines to a J10 ten-groove drive.
Three matching J10 pulleys are included so the alternator and engine drive components all run the same belt profile. Converting one pulley without the others leaves a drive that cannot be belted at all, so these kits are sold as sets rather than individual parts.
Two 55-inch J10 belts are supplied, giving one to install and one to keep aboard. A serpentine belt in a conversion size is not something a chandlery stocks, so the spare is worth more here than on a standard drive.
The conversion is what allows a high-output alternator to be driven properly. V-belts slip before a large alternator reaches full output, and tensioning harder only wears the belt and the bearings faster. Ten ribs spread the load instead. Explore more alternator mounts and pulleys.
