The Balmar AltMount Serpentine Pulley Conversion Kit converts Yanmar 4LH-A diesels to a J10 ten-groove alternator drive.

A properly matched serpentine system reduces belt slip and improves charging reliability over a single-V belt carrying more load than it was built for. The failure is gradual rather than sudden: the belt glazes, grip falls off, and charging performance declines over months while everything still appears to work.

Increased belt contact and power transfer are the point, and both follow from the wider ten-rib profile. That is what makes a high-output alternator worth fitting, since without the drive to match it the extra capacity stays theoretical.
