The Balmar AltMount Serpentine Pulley Conversion Kit converts the Yanmar 3YM30 accessory drive to a J10 ten-groove system.
High-output alternators demand more mechanical power than the original charging system was built to transmit through a single V-belt. That is the root of the problem: the alternator is capable, the engine has the power, and the belt is the component in the middle that was never sized for the upgrade.
A ten-rib serpentine belt spreads the load across a wider contact area, which is what makes the extra output usable. Without the conversion, fitting a large alternator to an engine like this produces belt dust, squealing and disappointing charge rates.
