Description

The Ancor Heavy-Duty Hex Lug and Terminal Crimper covers 6 AWG through 1/0 AWG with revolving dies.

Six through 1/0 is the practical range for most boat work, against the larger crimper covering 8 AWG through 4/0. Unless the boat has 2/0 or heavier cable, this covers everything and costs less. Checking the heaviest gauge in the installation is what decides between them.

Revolving dies let the correct size be selected for each conductor and terminal before crimping. Using the wrong die undoes the point of the tool: oversized leaves the crimp loose, undersized cuts strands and weakens the conductor.

A hex crimp compresses the lug evenly around the conductor from all sides, forming a low-resistance connection. That is what pliers or an improvised method cannot do. A one-sided crimp leaves strands loose inside, and the connection works until it is loaded and then heats. Explore more wire tools and crimpers.

  • 6 through 1/0 covers most boat work
  • The larger tool goes to 4/0 for heavier cable
  • Check the heaviest gauge in the installation
  • Wrong die: loose crimp or cut strands
