Back Up is the intent behind the name: a second fixed blade carried alongside a primary knife or sidearm, sized to ride flat without adding noticeable bulk. 440C was the benchmark stainless in production knives for decades, with high chromium for corrosion resistance and enough carbon to take a fine edge that comes back without diamond abrasives.
