Victron SmartSolar MPPT 150/70 Charge Controller

The Victron SmartSolar MPPT 150/70 is a 70A solar charge controller accepting up to 150V PV input, with built-in Bluetooth and no cooling fan.

Seventy amps is the high-output model in this range, sized for an array large enough to be worth the controller rather than a couple of panels. Conversion efficiency exceeds 98 percent without a fan, which is what makes that output possible passively. No fan means nothing to fail, no noise and no filter to clog in a marine installation.

Advanced maximum power point detection stops the controller settling on a lower local peak when partial shading creates several peaks on the panel power curve. That happens constantly on a boat as rigging, booms and radar arches move shadows across an array, and a controller without it can sit at a fraction of available output.

The charging algorithm is fully programmable with presets for common battery systems, and an internal sensor compensates absorption and float voltage for temperature. Optional Smart Battery Sense supplies external voltage and temperature over Bluetooth, and VE.Direct connects to GX devices and computers.
