The Victron SmartSolar MPPT 150/45 is a 45A solar charge controller accepting up to 150V PV input, with built-in Bluetooth and natural convection cooling.
A 150V PV ceiling is what separates this from the 100V models, and it decides how panels can be wired. Higher input voltage allows more panels in series, which cuts cable size, run length and losses. On a larger array that is the difference between a practical installation and heavy cable runs across a boat.
Advanced maximum power point detection improves output when part of the array is shaded, which on a boat happens constantly as booms, masts and rigging move across the panels. Ultra-fast tracking follows rapid changes in panel voltage and current under broken cloud, where a slower controller leaves energy unused.
Natural convection cooling means no fan, so there is nothing to fail and no noise from the installation. It recognizes common battery bank voltages automatically, can restart a severely depleted battery from very low voltage where the cells are still serviceable, and derates on over-temperature rather than shutting down.
