Description

The Victron 50A Autotransformer handles 120/240 VAC step-up, step-down and split-phase load balancing.

Split-phase balancing is the function most boats actually need it for, and it solves an uneven load problem. A 240V split-phase supply feeds two 120V legs. If most of the boat's load sits on one leg, that leg draws heavily while the other idles, and the shore breaker trips well below the service's real capacity.

The autotransformer redistributes between the legs so the load is shared rather than concentrated. That lets a boat use its full 240V service instead of being limited by whichever leg is busiest.

Step-up and step-down adapt between 120V and 240V requirements where the electrical design supports it. Fifty amps is the rating, and it should be matched against the shore service rather than the boat's total connected load. Explore more shore power accessories.

  • Split-phase balancing shares load between the legs
  • An uneven load trips the breaker below real capacity
  • It lets a boat use its full 240V service
  • Match the 50A rating to the shore service
