Description
The Victron Phoenix Smart IP43 12V 50A 1+1 has a main house output and an auxiliary starter output, accepting 120-240V AC.
Fifty amps is the largest 12V Phoenix Smart, for a boat with a substantial house bank that needs returning overnight rather than trickled over days. The auxiliary output runs at lower current and slightly lower voltage than the main one, which is correct for a starter battery that is nearly full after every engine start.
Automatic voltage compensation offsets DC cable losses as charging current rises, holding the correct voltage at the battery terminals rather than at the charger. At 50 amps that compensation matters. Cable drop across a long run at high current can leave a bank charging at noticeably less than the charger reports.
The adaptive six-stage process varies absorption time by discharge depth, BatterySafe limits voltage rise to prevent excessive gassing, and Storage mode lowers float during long idle periods with periodic refresh against sulfation. This model requires a separate 5-15P mains cord, which is worth ordering alongside it. IP43 suits a protected installation. Explore more battery chargers.
