Text messaging over VHF lets a boater send messages from their own phone through marine channels to other equipped radios, and a built-in GPS receiver plus companion smartphone app (Android and iOS) makes setting up DSC directory info and sending texts straightforward. Automatic Backlight Switching shifts between white for daylight and amber for night use without any manual adjustment, and Water Activated MOB automatically triggers the distress feature the moment the radio senses immersion, a critical function if the person carrying it goes overboard rather than just the radio.
