The Shakespeare Style 396-1-AIS 4-Foot Broadband VHF Antenna is engineered specifically for the wider bandwidth AIS transceivers require, built with commercial-grade construction and a dedicated mast-mounting sleeve rather than a standard base mount.

Included U-bolts handle the mast mounting directly, and a larger mast can also carry this antenna via steel banding, bought separately, giving genuine flexibility for sailboats and other vessels where mast mounting is the practical option. One installation detail worth noting: this antenna isn't DC grounded, so it will read as an open circuit on an ohmmeter test, which is expected and not a fault. Coax cable is sold separately, so plan for that as an additional purchase alongside the antenna itself. This one-section antenna stands 4 feet tall and terminates at SO-239 at the base. Shakespeare backs it with a 2-year limited warranty.
